Ministry - Thought for the month
In the last student’s fellowship meeting, we learned about the church of Ephesus from the book of Revelation.
The church of Ephesus was started around AD 56/57 by Apostle Paul and a husband/wife team, Pricilla and Aquilla. Paul was there three year and was very tight with the eldership.
The city of Ephesus was a prosperous harbor town of 250,000 with a vibrant trade; it hosted one of the seven wonders of the ancient world, the temple of Artemis.
Artemis was a Greek goodness of forest, hills and fertility. She was often depicted as a huntress carrying a bow and arrows. That ancient temple was an asylum/sanctuary; criminals would fly there and be protected from prosecution.
Even against this idol-infested culture, the church at Ephesus thrived and Christ affirmed their strength.
1) Their toil
It was a busy and active church full of believers who served with diligence
2) Their endurance
They stood unswervingly in their loyalty to Christ even though they were assaulted by Pagans temple of Greek mythology.
3) Their orthodoxy
This church would sniff out false doctrine in a heartbeat, they always tested what was taught to them.
It’s good to be right as the church of Ephesus but it is enough to be JUST RIGHT…
