John 11:1-37

John 11:1-37

In this chapter, we see an exceptional characteristic of Thomas. We knowThomas as “Doubting Thomas,” but here we come to know him as a “Risk-taker.” When other disciples were afraid of the Jews, Thomas said to them, “Let us also go, that we may die with him” (v. 16). Let us be strong and bold, for the Lord our God is with us.

Jesus was deeply moved in the spirit and troubled (v 33). It shows that we have a God who suffers with us when we suffer. He is a personal God, not detached or abstract.

In the gospel of John, the word “believe” is repeated. In this passage, Jesus says, “if you believed, you would see the glory of God” When we believe in Him we will see the glory of God in our lives.

one question but two answers “Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died” (v 32,21).
Both sisters ask the exact same question verbatim.
Jesus answers one with “words” and the other with “weeping”.
Jesus doesn’t answer each of our questions ( even though it can all be the same). This is probably the reason why we all cannot anticipate the same reply as the other when we both struggle with the same problem.
But the good part is that he answers both.

Bad things can turn into good things. The bad thing was Mary’s brother died, but the good thing is that he is going to rise and it will spread out that Jesus raises someone from the dead.

25 … He who believes in Me , though He may die , He shall live. 26 And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die…- Jesus mentioned death in both verses.
– a) If both are spiritual death, v25 will mean even spiritually dead could get life.
– b) if both are physical death, v26 will mean, we won’t face physical death
– c) v25 – physical death & v26 spiritual death?

Jesus waited and then went after Lazarus died. So he can show the Lords Glory.

We can ask Jesus anything and He will answer.

Jesus is son of man when he wept. He is God when he knew that he had to wait and then raise Lazarus from dead.” Beautiful Savior! Lord of all the nations!
Son of God and Son of Man!
Glory and Honor; praise adoration ,
Now and forever more be Thine.”

Verse 26. If we believe in HIM there is no death in spiritual life. When Lazarus sisters called emergency 911 (Jesus) Jesus took his own time. In His time He makes all things beautiful. உன் நினைவுகள் ஏன் நினைவுகள் அல்ல.

1. Sign of signs
-“Neither this man nor his parents sinned, but this happened so that the workings of God is manifested in him (John 9:3).
-…Jesus said “This sickness will not end in death. No, it is for God’s glory so that God’s Son may be glorified through it (v4).
-Signs are performed ONLY to glorify the God, but in today’s world most of the so called God’s servants glorify themselves through it.
2. Strong Faith
-Martha said to Jesus “Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died (v21). But I know that even now God will give you whatever you ask (v22).
-Mary fell at Jesus feet and said “Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died (v32).
-Martha said “Lord, I believe that you are the Messiah, the Son of God, who is to come into the world” (v27).
3. Starting to believe!
-Some of the Jews said “Could not He who opened the eyes of the blind man have kept this man from dying?” (V37).
-Therefore MANY of the Jews, who had seen what Jesus did (Raise Lazarus from the dead), BELIEVED in Him (v45).

When none of disciples around Jesus didn’t know or realize that Lazarus has died, how did Jesus know about it, was that in his spirit?

Martha had a strong faith on Jesus that He is the Messiah who is to come into this world. We should also have that kind of faith.

Jesus is sad when we are suffering. But his love will comforts us.

Jesus’ delayed response: Sometimes we have to go through pain in order to glorify God. When God delays, there will be a strong reason behind it.
Our faith is proved while we wait for Gods response.
In times of sorrows we have our wonderful Jesus for us to lean on for our strength and comfort.
