2 Peter: 1

அவர் உங்களை விசாரிக்கிறவரானபடியால் உங்கள் கவலைகளையெல்லாம் அவர்மேல் வைத்துவிடுங்கள் [1 பேதுரு 5 : 7]

2 Peter 1: By the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ, we have obtained a faith of equal standing with saints (v. 1) and His divine power has granted us ALL things that pertain to life and godliness (v. 3). Therefore, let us make every effort to supplement our faith with virtue, knowledge, self-control, steadfastness, godliness, brotherly affection, and love (vv. 5-7). In addition to this, let us be all the more diligent to make our calling and election sure (v. 10).

2Peter 1:3 seeing that his divine power hath granted unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness through the knowledge of him that called us by his own glory and virtue.

II Peter 1: From faith to love there is a hierarchical, adding on of support between virtues. If this is hierarchical as it looks like, it shows the magnitude and highest place of love among virtues. It is easy to assume that we have love by equating it to compassion, affection or respect. This chapter makes us rethink. It also gives us a fresh view of discipleship, which is nothing but growing in these virtues (vv. 5-7).

knowing this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture comes from someone’s own interpretation.”First of all note this”. Unbelievable. This seems a perfectly legitimate sermon to be given in current day New York as in first century Mesopotamia.
Most people I talk to say Scripture is all our own interpretation .. who is to say who is right and who is wrong? What matters is NOT the intent but the interpretation.. unfortunately Peter has no time to waste on such frivolous talk. “prophesy of Scriptures” is not open for interpretation but closed for obedience. Let’s not forget this was a problem of “primitive” fishermen friends of Peter and also the most modern of American.

I like Sam’s comment about hierarchy! It starts with Faith and end up with Love. Does this mean people not in Faith don’t have any of these? Every human seams to have one or few. But we need to have all of these. In V5 in Tamil it says இவைகள் உங்களுக்கு உண்டாயிருந்து *பெருகினால்*….We should be working towards improving in those characteristics(v5-7). Peter also says in v10 ஆகையால், சகோதரரே, உங்கள் அழைப்பையும் தெரிந்து கொள்ளுதலையும் *உறுதியாக்கும்படி ஜாக்கிரதையாயிருங்கள்.*
– we need to be careful till things are firmed up.

2 Peter 1 -(v3) His divine power has given us “everything” we need for a godly life through our “knowledge of Him” who called us by His own glory and goodness.
-We didn’t choose Him, He chose us! We are nothing, and we had nothing, He has given us everything! Only through our knowledge of Him, we can live a godly and holy life that would lead us to the eternal kingdom.
