About Tamil UCC
Church SongStarted in 1997, for the Tamil-speaking people of Chicago and the surrounding suburbs to glorify God, we value our Indian culture and impart a good Christian environment for our children and youth. We are striving to be the kind of church described in the Bible — in praising, worshiping, honoring the Spiritual Gifts (I Cor 12:4-11), Christian fellowship (Acts 2:47), persistent intercessory prayer, searching of scriptures, encouraging our children, supporting ministries and compassionate care for those in need.

Tamil United Church of Christ was formed with the intention of serving the spiritual needs of the Tamil Community around Chicago and in India. Tamil UCC is a young and energetic community. Children have fun learning God’s love through bible stories, worship, songs, crafts and games. Adults enjoy the wonderful Christian fellowship through bible study, night prayer, weekly gatherings and excellent Tamil worship service. Tamil Church Milestones

We actively strive to do our Christian duties through prayer, fasting, worship, ministry, giving and bible study. We gladly welcome everyone. If you have a longing to do God’s work, if you need spiritual fellowship, if you want to learn more about the Bible, if you just want to know who we are or what we do, please contact anyone in our contacts page or better still join us for any of the activities listed in our activities page. We look forward to hearing from you.

History of Tamil UCC
Our church began as "Chicago Tamil Koil" in January 1997 through the efforts of Samuel Paulus, who had the vision of forming a Tamil church in Chicago. Paulus was introduced to Rev. Joseph Mills, Senior Pastor, Westchester Community Church in April 1997 by Rev. Robert Scheiller, Associate Conference Minister of Illinois Conference of the United Church of Christ. The first gathering at the present facility began in May 1997. In 1998, Chicago Tamil Koil and United Church of South India, Chicago (a group of people meeting in Harvard UCC) merged. The result was the present church.

The diversity of the people worshipping with us has given us a healthy and global outlook. Our members, who come from different denominations are united with one goal - to serve the Tamil Community in and around Chicago and back in our homeland. Our preamble,"We, the people of the community belonging to a Tamil ethnic group, residing in and around Illinois, focus on our spiritual needs and mindful of our Christian duties, do voluntarily associate for Christian fellowship and religious expression for the purpose of establishing a church" clearly outlines our unified goal.

We recognize the Christian Bible as the rule of faith and practice the same way of worship as directed by the Bible. This is our covenant,"We covenant with the Lord, The Holy Christian scriptures and with one another, and do bind ourselves in the presence of God to walk together in Christian Love. We seek to worship God in Spirit and in truth, and to love our neighbors as ourselves."

We are affiliated to the Chicago Metropolitan Association of the Illinois Conference of the United Church of Christ.
